A team of Engineers Led by a 38 year old electrical engineer Arjun Arunachalum introduced a new, fast, portable and 1.5 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging scanner.
Arjun Arunachalum believes that his dreams come true after a decade of effort. The scanner is assembled in the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Bangalore. The portable scanner is compact and lightweight apart from this the scanner image generating speed is three or four times faster than the other scanners in the market and it also consumes less power.
Usually the commercial MRI scanners take a week to become functional after it has been fully turned off, but compared with new portable scanners it has a two hour switch on feature which makes it easy to use.
The professor of radiology at the MES Medical College in Kerala and the president of the Indian Society of Radiology and Imaging, Dr Kunnummal Mohanan said “If it works, it would be a breakthrough.”Â
The purpose of Magnetic resonance Imaging scans is to take images of soft tissues and moving organs such as the heart. The presently innovative scanner can reduce the cost of magnetic resonance imaging. This will also expand the scope of diseases that MRI scans can diagnose.
