In a new study scientists have found that two compounds in coffee may help to fight parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia. The compounds are Caffeine and EHT.
The director of Rutgers, Mr. Maral Mouradian said, “Prior research has shown that drinking coffee may reduce the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease. While caffeine has traditionally been credited as coffee’s special protective agent , coffee beans contain more than a thousand other compounds that are less well known”.
Mainly the study focused on fatty acid called EHT((Eicosanoyl-5-hydroxytryptamide) which is found in the bean’s coating. EHT is a compound found in various types of coffee but the amount varies. These EHT protects the brain from parkinson’s disease and lewy body dementia. According to the study researchers found that the combination of EHT and caffeine may be able to slow the progression of these diseases.
According to the US health survey Parkinson’s disease is a brain disorder that can lead to shaking, difficulty in walking balance etc. One of the other disease is Lewy body dementia which is the most common forms of dementia and it causes problem with thinking, behaviour, mood and movement.
