According to the study by the National Institutes of Health found a new technique to track maternal blood flow to the placenta which may help to diagnose several common complications in early pregnancy. For this technique researchers referred to pseudo continuous arterial spin labeling magnetic resonance imaging which helps to identify women with reduced placental blood flow who later developed one or more complications.
According to the study researchers found that for early pregnancy cells of the placenta cause uterine arteries to widen which may increase the supply of maternal blood. In their study researchers classified these complications as ischemic placental disease which includes preeclampsia, intrauterine growth restriction and preterm birth.
In their study researchers analysed the placentas of 69 women, first at 14 to 18 weeks of pregnancy and other that 19 to 24 weeks. In their survey 15 pregnancies were ultimately identified as having one or more conditions.
Atlast the study results are confirmed, and the method may provide a way to diagnose women at risk for ischemic placental disease in early pregnancy.
