Reducing Radiation Dose in Pelvic CT Scan

A recent study has concluded that the technique of perusing imaging with a filtered back projection and 50% blended ratio of Adaptive Statistical Iterative Reconstruction (ASIR50) requires significantly small amounts of radiation during pelvic computed tomography (CT).

This technique of low dose CT images with ASIR50 produces refine lesion edges and contours and this dramatically improves the diagnostic ability which improves positive result oriented treatment. The study further affirmed that low dose CT images with ASIR50 improved the visualization of different parts of the pelvic region as compared to traditional dose CT images with filter back projection. The results with filtered back projection combined with low dose CT images with ASIR50 made it easy to read the reports and arrive at conclusive decisions to diagnose the disease and administer the required treatments.

The continuous progress in medical technology shall lead to further reducing the use of low dose of radiation and reduction in image noise without compromising the quality of digital imaging.
