Ventilation-Perfusion (VQ) Scan Interpretation and Reporting
We pursue relationships based on transparency, persistence, mutual trust, and integrity with our employees, customers and other business partners.
We provide online interpretation and reporting of Ventilation-Perfusion (VQ) scans. The reporting will be done by nuclear medicine specialists from India and USA and reports will be delivered within 24-48 hours.
Ventilation-Perfusion (VQ) Scan is a scintigraphic examination of lung which is basically done to evaluate ventilation (airflow) of bronchoalveolar tree and perfusion (blood flow) of pulmonary vasculature.
Technique
Firstly a chest radiograph is taken to rule out any previously present perfusion defects (eg. atelectasis).
The scan is carried out in two phases:
Phase1
Radio-isotope labeled aerosols (Technetium-99m DTPA) are delivered to the patient through a non-rebreathing mask/ nebuliser for a few minutes, images are taken with the patient in supine position in three phases: inhalation, equilibrium and exhalation, at different angles. The aerosol particles are small enough to reach the distal tracheobronchial tree and reflect regional ventilation.
Phase2
For perfusion scan, radioactive material is injected into a vein in the arm (Tc-99m MAA) intravenously in the supine position. The MAA particles are small enough to get lodged in the pre-capillary arterioles then images are taken using a gamma camera with high resolution and large field of view.
Indications
- Pulmonary Embolism
- In lung cancer patients to evaluate lung function, where
- Pre surgical evaluation (when pneumonectomy is planned)
- After lung transplantmonitor to check pulmonary functio
